For your safety, please notify your provider before treatment if you have any of the following:

  • Neuromuscular disorders (such as myasthenia gravis or Lambert-Eaton syndrome)
  • History of Bell’s Palsy within the past 3 years
  • Seizure within the past 30 days
  • Allergy to botulinum toxin, human albumin (Botox), or cow’s milk protein (Dysport)
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding

If any of the above apply, you should not receive wrinkle relaxer treatments.

To achieve the best results and minimize bruising, swelling, or adverse reactions, please follow these steps prior to your appointment.

Two Weeks Before Treatment

  • Vaccinations: Inform your provider if you have received any vaccines in the two weeks before treatment. A recent vaccine may heighten immune response, so elective procedures should be delayed.
  • Recent Illness: Wait at least 1–2 weeks after any illness, infection, virus, or antibiotic use before treatment to allow your immune system to normalize.

One Week Before Treatment

  • Avoid blood-thinning medications and supplements such as aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), Aleve, Excedrin, fish oil, omega-3, vitamin E, St. John’s Wort, ginkgo biloba, and garlic. These can increase bruising.
  • Discuss all current medications and medical conditions with your provider, including topical prescriptions or treatments for skin conditions.

Three Days Before Treatment

  • Discontinue use of anti-aging or exfoliating products containing Retin-A, retinol, glycolic acid, or alpha hydroxy acids.
  • Avoid waxing, tweezing, bleaching, or depilatory creams in the treatment area.
  • Do not consume alcohol for at least 72 hours before your appointment to reduce bruising risk.

24 Hours Before Treatment

  • Avoid caffeine and alcohol to minimize swelling and bruising.
  • Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.

Day of Treatment

  • Eat a light snack or meal beforehand to prevent lightheadedness.
  • You may take Tylenol (acetaminophen) one hour prior if you’re concerned about discomfort.
  • Arrive with a clean face (no makeup or lotion).
  • Inform your provider of any new medications or changes in your health since your last visit.

Proper aftercare ensures the best possible results and minimizes side effects.

First 4 Hours After Treatment

  • Stay upright—do not lie down, bend forward, or press on the treated areas.
  • Avoid exercise, heavy lifting, or strenuous activity that increases blood flow to the face.
  • Do not wear tight headwear, hats, or headbands that could apply pressure to the injection sites.

24–48 Hours After Treatment

  • Avoid makeup application for the first 24 hours to reduce infection risk.
  • Refrain from alcohol, caffeine, and high-sodium foods, which can worsen swelling.
  • Avoid retinoids and exfoliating products until any redness or tenderness resolves.

72 Hours After Treatment

  • Continue to avoid blood-thinning supplements such as vitamin E, garlic, ginkgo biloba, and fish oil for an additional three days.
  • You may gently wash your face but do not rub or massage treated areas.

Two Weeks After Treatment

  • Avoid additional cosmetic treatments—including facials, chemical peels, laser treatments, microneedling, or facial massage—for at least 14 days after your wrinkle relaxer session.
  • You may schedule touch-up or follow-up appointments as recommended by your provider.
  • 3–5 Days: Early improvement may be visible as muscles begin to relax.
  • 14 Days: Full results are typically visible. Wrinkles appear softer, and skin looks smoother.
  • 6–8 Weeks: Effects gradually begin to fade as muscle activity returns.
  • 3–4 Months: Movement and expression lines return to baseline. Maintenance treatments every 3–4 months are recommended for consistent results.
  • Receiving Botox or Dysport and Xeomin while pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Skipping follow-up sessions, which may limit long-term improvement
  • Failing to disclose medications or medical history, increasing complication risk
  • Mild redness, tenderness, or small bumps at injection sites are normal and typically resolve within 24 hours.
  • If you experience significant pain, swelling, bruising, drooping, or flu-like symptoms, contact our office immediately.
  • Always follow your provider’s product and care recommendations for best results.
